Today is a busy morning. My Bible in 90 Days mentees are starting Week 7 of reading the bible cover to cover. My bible study students are completing their week of studying John chapter 1. And I am starting 31 Days of Love.

After spending the weekend at a resort and spa I thought I’d throw us all in the sauna.

His Unfailing Love Surrounds Us by Dana Pittman

This weekend I spoke at a women’s retreat on the topic Standing on God’s Promises. During my time before them we considered the gaps in our lives between what we read in the bible and our day-to-day reality. I urged them to seek the greater life as Jesus promises in John but as I write this post I want to take it a little further.

While at the resort I spent some time at the spa. I planned to get a massage and leave however I was encouraged to take a few minutes and enjoy the sauna.

Now you may or may not know about water (or steam in this case) and curly hair, the two are not close buddies.  But I decided I’d give it a go and deal with my curly tresses later.

I walked into the sauna with tight shoulders, sore muscles, and a heart heavy with some upcoming decisions. I did not intend to solve them in one day yet when you find yourself sitting around trying to relax your wondering thoughts seem to have plans of their own.

I found a place to sit. I rolled my towel into a pillow-like shape and allowed my body to relax. I could see a couple of ladies sitting as well. I whispered my greetings and took my seat. Head back. Eyes closed.

Let your unfailing love surround us, LORD,
for our hope is in you alone.

Psalm 33:22

Mozart played. The aroma of eucalyptus filled the air. I took deep breathes inhaling through my nose and exhaling out my mouth.

The temperature was hot. I felt my muscles relaxing and I listened to the little drops of water fall from the ceiling as they lost their battle with gravity.

One particular drop would land on the bridge of my nose causing me to open my eyes. In that very moment the steam released. The once visible became invisible. I could barely see the end of my nose, let alone the surrounding space.

In an instant I thought about preparing for my talk and traveling to the location. Sharing time with women as they shared intimate details of their lives. Praying for some, ministering to others and hugging like our lives depended on it.

"His purpose in all of this was that the nations
should seek after God and perhaps feel their
way toward him and find him — though he is
not far from any one of us.

Acts 17:27 NLT (Read in context)

He was near. He was in our hearts enveloped in our praise. He caught every tear. He echoed the laughter. He added a little base to the music sending the ladies to the dance floor as they line danced and shared in a wonderful fellowship.

The LORD is wonderfully good to those
who wait for him and seek him.

Lamentations 3:25 NLT

Sitting in the sauna I felt invisible yet totally encompassed by God’s love.

Have you ever found yourself in awe of God’s awesomeness?

Have you ever felt like that drop of water losing your fight and descending in life only to have the very hand of God catch you?

Have you ever felt invisible yet fully aware and fully present?

Seek the LORD while you can find him.
Call on him now while he is near.

Isaiah 55:6 NLT (Read in context)

And in an instant the steam dissipated from sight…but the feeling continues to linger in my heart.

I stood grabbed my towel and with an AMEN I was ready to make my way home.

Question: How has God shown you His love this weekend?
