Saturday’s Sister to Sister: Root People

2

I have intentionally been in hiding. (smile) As the fall rolls in I usually become extremely busy between my family (we homeschool), small groups, teaching, and speaking.

Root People by Dana Pittman

My days are spent reading and teaching. In an effort to get a jump start on my topics for my winter speaking engagements I pulled away from my online stuff this week. I only checked my email once daily and I wasn't on social media but for brief periods of time.

It was refreshing. But I couldn't miss Saturday's Sister to Sister.

I thought of you all week. You sprung up and took center stage when I received a wonderful email from Tyler Perry. It gave me the focus for today.

Here's part of his message:

ROOT PEOPLE

If you can find some people in your life who are like the roots of a tree then you have found something special. Like the roots of a tree, they are hard to find because they are not trying to be seen. Their only job is to hold you up and help you live a strong and healthy life. If you thrive, they are happy. They stay low key and don't let the world know that they are there. And if you go through an awful storm they will hold you up. Their job is to hold you up, come what may, and to nourish you, feed you and water you. (Read the entire message.)

I read the message and my heart and mind began to consider the people that have come and gone in my life. While I sat thinking a received an email from my very good friend, and sister. She forwarded the message above and included…."You are one of my roots. Thank you!"

I sat at my computer crying like a baby. They were tears of happiness.

To you today, consider you too may be a root to someone else. But for now, I'd like for you to think of the Root People in your life.

Call them up.

Email them.

Tell them, "Thank you for being one of my roots."

Good day sisters!

Question: Who are your Root People? Where would we be without them?
