My Brief Review

I was contacted by the author and asked to review this title. I believe she contacted me because I mentor women as they read through the bible in 90 days. I quickly jumped at the chance to read this book. In this brief review I will share a pro and con from the book:

PRO: As I state below, I found her personal experience put to words what I have learned when I read the bible in a short period of time.

CON: I felt like some of the information was repetitive and full of quotes from outside sources.

This type of book, in my opinion, is hard to give a “rating” because this is her personal account, which gave the book a memoir feel. I don’t find that bad its just wasn’t what I fully expected. I thought it would have a little of her story and share a bit more about “The KEY” and “ABC”. But the concepts covered were general and many of the details came from outside quotes.

In the end I enjoyed the book.

Blogging Through the Book: Doors

Doors.

Doors in our lives–both physically and figuratively–represent the fluidity of life. They can symbolize an entrance or exit. They can represent an opportunity or failure.

Doors by Dana Pittman

This week in our continuation of The Gospel of Yes by Mike Glenn I found my notepad full of wonderful topics to explore. I stared at the blinking cursor for way too long before deciding…yet again…to continue the trajectory of our existing conversation.

Pastor Mike did not speak of doors in this week’s reading. However, I couldn’t shake the concept. After reading I couldn’t help wondering, how are we to know when an opportunity is in fact favorable or unfavorable?

Blogging Through the Book: Why Are You Here

I’m in love.

I love the Word of God. I love Him too. But there is something about sitting at His feet and taking it all in. This is one of the reasons I serve as a mentor in the Bible in 90 Days challenge.

The first time I participated in the challenge a fire was ignited in my heart for reading the Word. That fire is now a full blaze and I hope it never extinguishes.

What does this have to do with The Gospel of Yes? Everything.

Blogging Through the Book: Frozen in Fear

If we took a trip down memory lane, what would you say is your greatest challenge? What has kept you from going after your dreams…your purpose…your “Yes”?

I bet if I took a poll “fear” would win, hands down. This week with our reading of Chapters 2 and 3 of The Gospel of Yes by Mike Glenn, he shares so much but I’d like to focus on one small area.

Fear.

Why Dana? Why would you want to focus on fear?

Blogging Through the Book: Focus on Yes

Why was I created? I think it’s a lofty thought. You can spend hours speculating, wondering, even wishing. But usually we tie our “yes” our acceptance to worldly things.

At least, that is how I lived my life. I tied my acceptance to my husband, my children, my career. I don’t recall ever considering what my “yes” was/is in Christ.

What about you? What is the basis of your acceptance? What makes you feel like you belong? What gives you direction?

It wasn’t until I woke up mentally and physically exhausted.

I was tired. I realized being tied to worldly acceptance was hard work. The payoffs seemed satisfying for brief moments but it did not hold for long. At my awareness of this fact, I began searching.

I wish I had a book like “The Gospel of Yes”. It would have saved me some time. But better late than never. (smile)
