Blogging Through the Book: Frozen in Fear
If we took a trip down memory lane, what would you say is your greatest challenge? What has kept you from going after your dreams…your purpose…your “Yes”?
I bet if I took a poll “fear” would win, hands down. This week with our reading of Chapters 2 and 3 of The Gospel of Yes by Mike Glenn, he shares so much but I’d like to focus on one small area.
Why Dana? Why would you want to focus on fear?
Well, last week I asked whether you knew your “yes”. I believe the next natural thought would be…Why are we not living in our “yes”?
Pastor Mike wrote about being “Frozen in Fear”. The section addresses where he believes most Christians settle in our lives. That we sometimes refuse to simply try instead we live a low profile existence waiting to get to heaven.
This got my mind going.
Being frozen in fear is like being placed on lifetime parole. You can move about in the world but you have limitations and invisible restrictions that suck the life out of you.
Want to be free?
Really free? Read this… Not once…not twice…write it down read it every time your heart goes faint.
Every time you think the ground beneath you is trembling and not able to sustain your weight. Every time a negative response threatens to shatter your vulnerable faith. Every time you lean towards the lies of the world instead of the truth in Christ.
“We don’t understand how much God loves us, how much
his mercy has already covered and will continue to cover,
and how perfect and complete Christ’s sacrifice is for us.” (p. 34)
I read this sentence and my heart leaped for joy.
Once I began to understand, no matter how small my understanding may be, how much God loves me it caused my heart to swell. Not in pride. But to swell and extend its reach to include more people in my life and to enjoy more experiences.
His love covers the now invisible cracks where life told me lies and I believed them. When people said and did hurtful things and I believed the lies.
Who am I to…
Oh no, not me…
What? But you don’t know what I used to do…
You don’t know who I used to be…
My friends no matter how you dress up a lie it is still an untruth. That untruth is very dangerous. And I’m not addressing the boldface lies, although they are deadly as well, I am speaking of those fallacies that look so good they appear to be the truth.
“For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29:11 (Read in context.)
What I love most about this passage is the promise. He is letting them know that hard times are on the horizon but My promise will be. He is saying…don’t let the circumstances cause you to doubt, I have a plan for you.
"Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. I will be found by you," declares the LORD… Jeremiah 29:12-14a (Read in context.)
If fear is the structure holding us captive, God provided the key to the lock. The key to our freedom is Jesus. God had a plan then and He has a plan now. Seek Him. Identify your “yes”. And make the decision to live in His “yes”.
Pastor Mike says it beautifully, “His ‘yes’ defeats the ‘no’ within us.” (p. 29)
Question: What fear has caused you to respond in a resounding “no” when your heart is secretly screaming “yes”? Add your comment below.
